Specified Skills Visa 1-SSV1: The skilled worker visa 1-SSV1 is a non-immigrant visa that allows foreign nationals to come to Japan and work in specific occupations.
For example, only shipbuilding workers, farmers, nursing care workers and others in those industries can apply for this visa. The applicant must pass a Japanese language test and a technical exam. The visa is valid for one year and may be renewed for up to five years. If an applicant wants to stay longer than five years, they will need to apply for visa 2-SSV2.
Specified Skills Visa 2-SSV2: A 2-SSV2 Visa is a long-term visa that allows an individual to work in Japan. This visa category is best suited for individuals who have obtained specialized skills, such as doctors and nurses, as well as engineers and other professionals.
This visa can be renewed indefinitely, and applicants may bring their family members to Japan. Individuals who have a regular level of specialization in their field are eligible for this specific visa only after they have been in Japan for a certain length of time.
