The Yukon is a small territory in the northwestern part of Canada with a population of just over 30,000 people and offers opportunities for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers. Seeking Work. The main industries in the Yukon are mining and tourism. With an unemployment rate of 5%, the government is looking forward to new immigrants who will help to maintain GDP growth.
Canada is a landscape that includes ten provinces & three territories. One of the territories, the Yukon Territory, has its own immigration program known as the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP). The YNP is a collection of immigration pathways enabling foreign nationals to become Canadian permanent residents.
The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is a program designed to allow the territory to attract and retain skilled and experienced working-class people from abroad. It is run by Yukon’s Department of Immigration, and similar to other Canadian Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), assists the territory in planning for its future demographic needs. The YNP is made up of a number of immigration pathways designed to appeal to a diverse range of foreign nationals.
The Yukon territory operates several immigration streams:
The Yukon Skilled Worker stream gives foreign nationals with skilled working experience and a valid job offer from an employer based in Yukon, an opportunity to receive a provincial nomination. After receiving a provincial nomination from this stream, the applicant is allowed to apply directly for Canadian permanent residence from IRCC. Applicants who receive a federal nomination in any of Canada’s Economic Immigration Programs must first have a job offer from an employer in Yukon or apply for a Yukon nomination.
Yukon offers a unique program for people looking for permanent residency in Canada. The Yukon Express Entry stream provides candidates with an active Express Entry profile and a valid job offer from an employer in Yukon, an opportunity to apply for a provincial nomination from Yukon. This program works in collaboration with the federal Express Entry immigration system, enabling successful applicants to receive expedited processing on their immigration applications.
Yukon Express Entry is a Yukon immigration program that helps connect Yukon employers with applicants from the Express Entry pool who have secured a job in Canada and wish to stay permanently.
Becoming a Yukon Critical Impact Worker (CIW) may be an option for you if you want to immigrate to Canada as a semi-skilled worker. CIWs are nominated by the Government of Yukon through the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP). The CIW stream gives qualified workers with semi-skilled work experience and a valid job offer from a Yukon employer an opportunity to receive a provincial nomination. Receiving a provincial nomination from this program allows the candidate a chance to apply directly for Canadian permanent residence from IRCC.
This stream provides a pathway to permanent residence for applicants with business & entrepreneurial experience who are interested in owning and operating a business in the Yukon.
Candidates must have a minimum net worth of $500,000 CAD, in addition to meeting other program requirements. The net worth includes assets such as cash, accounts receivable, deposits with financial institutions, bonds, shares & any other equity holdings in companies or partnerships. It does not include real estate or personal property such as jewelry or cars.
Applicants must also demonstrate that they have sufficient capital to operate the proposed business for at least one year after receiving their permanent resident visa. Applicants should also demonstrate that they can provide for themselves and their family members for three years upon arrival in Canada.
Applicants must also meet requirements relating to language proficiency and provide proof of English or French language proficiency if they wish to settle outside of Whitehorse (e.g., within communities across Yukon).
The Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) is a new application stream of the Yukon Nominee Program. This pilot program was created to address the specific economic and labour market needs of the Yukon. Qualified applicants will be granted a 2-year location-restricted open work permit.
The YCP will accept applications from applicants who have a current job offer from a Yukon employer, or an employer who has been approved for recruitment funding by the Yukon government. Only those candidates with a minimum of two years of work experience in their occupation are eligible to apply under this program.
The YCP is intended to fill gaps in Yukon’s labour force, which include skilled trades, engineers, health care professionals, teachers, and other professionals in high demand by local employers. The program is designed to allow qualified immigrants to settle in the territory more quickly than they would under other immigration programs by expediting the process once they arrive in Canada.
